To Identify and fill gaps in social services for underserved populations for whom social services are not traditionally available.
Veterans have been identified as an under-served population when it comes to obtaining critical dental care. The Veterans Administration provides limited dental services while most low to no-cost “pro bono” care is aimed at single issue treatment– such as teeth cleaning or single tooth extraction. Veterans suffering from illness or years of financial difficulty often have issues that cannot be cared for through these single-treatment programs. These are the circumstances that Ayuda of Southern Arizona’s “Smiles for Veterans” program targets.
The program works to establish partnerships with dental providers to reduce the cost of service for any veteran that requests help. Regardless of their financial position, veterans can take advantage of these opportunities.. The program facilitates “Day of Service” events for national dental organizations.. And, there is a dental insurance option for Medicare age Veterans which can sometimes be a lesser cost way of servicing their dental needs.
Ayuda of Southern Arizona continues working to form strategic partnerships with other organizations, including the American Legion, to fundraise for this program and to identify Veterans that need these life changing services.
